Summary
Working in partnership with Elixel, the goal was to develop Elixel's workshop discovery research, the clients' sleep training PDF resource and design an app that identifies sleep issues in young people.
The app helps users cultivate healthy sleep patterns benefiting health professionals, schools, and parents.
My role
I contributed to the creation of style concepts for approval in both dark and light modes. Additionally, I assisted in refining the sleep assessment process by developing wireframes and user flows, while also providing a concise design system.
Moreover, I generated prototypes for pivotal user journeys, including the sleep assessment, adding members in the app, qualifying questions, alerts and reminders, account and onboarding processes, sleepiness score calculation, recommended exercises, and learning modules. I delivered final designs for development that aided Elixel in delivering a successful app.
The challenge
Elixel collaborated closely with the resource and utilised Hunrosa's expertise to identify crucial areas for digitisation and interactivity. Through this collaboration, Elixel successfully determined how information could be strategically mapped to provide personalised recommendations. My challenge lay in visualising solutions that encompassed the essential aspects of digitisation and interaction and aligning these with the needs of the personas.
Solution
To maintain assessment anonymity, I introduced the concept of animal avatars. These avatars enabled assessors to assign and later identify animal characters that best matched the personality of the individual.
Additionally, we developed an intuitive invite feature to accommodate multiple roles, allowing multiple sleep assessors to access the same individual's assessments simultaneously.
A Dashboard page was implemented to provide convenient access to all assessments, both individual and group-level. Furthermore, we successfully transformed the sleep training PDF resource into a step-by-step series of diagnostic questions. These questions dynamically branched to the appropriate assessment result as the user progressed through the feature, streamlining the assessment process.
Additional benefits included the incorporation of sleep training exercises, training modules, and quizzes within the dashboard area. These resources served to educate assessors and enhance the overall user experience.
Impact and outcome
The iOS and Android app underwent initial beta testing within the NASS membership, employing app store testing tracks to provide private versions for trial. Following a 3-month testing phase, the app was subsequently made available to the public.
After its public release, Sleep Wise underwent assessment by ORCHA to evaluate its safety, accessibility, and security. In January 2023, it was awarded ORCHA certified status. Since then, ongoing product enhancements have been implemented, including the integration of a digital sleep diary and the introduction of a subscription model. Plans are underway to distribute 600 licenses to schools and institutions in 2023, supported by consultancy services from Hunrosa – Elixel
